Terms of Use
These terms govern the services provided by the Louisaamore workshop for the physical preservation of books, manuscripts, and paper artifacts. Please read them carefully before submitting an item for assessment.
Our work is limited to the physical conservation and restoration of paper, leather, and cloth bindings. This includes mending brittle fibers with wheat-starch paste, hand-sewing structural sections with unbleached linen thread, and applying natural beeswax conditioners to aged covers. We do not perform digitization, content appraisal, or commercial valuation of items.
You are responsible for providing accurate information about the item's origin, known previous treatments, and any existing damage. Items must be delivered with a clear description of the desired outcome. We may request photographs or an in-person inspection before accepting a commission. The client must ensure they have the legal right to authorize conservation work on the item.
After receiving an item, we will conduct a thorough condition report. This report outlines the proposed treatment, materials to be used, and an estimated timeline. No work begins until you have approved the written proposal. The final cost may vary if unforeseen structural issues are discovered during treatment; we will contact you for approval before proceeding with any additional work.
While we aim to stabilize and preserve, we cannot guarantee the complete reversal of previous damage or the restoration of original colors. Certain types of degradation, such as red rot or severe mold damage, may be slowed but not fully reversed. We use only reversible and conservation-grade materials. No treatment is guaranteed against future environmental damage.
Our workshop maintains professional care standards. We are liable for damage caused by our direct negligence during treatment. Our liability is limited to the cost of the conservation work performed on the specific item. We are not liable for pre-existing damage, inherent vice, or loss or damage resulting from events outside our control, including but not limited to natural disasters, theft, or acts of God. Insurance coverage for the item's full value is the client's responsibility.
You may withdraw an item from treatment at any time before work commences. If work has begun, you may request its cessation, and you will be charged for the portion of work completed and any materials already used. We reserve the right to decline a commission if we deem the item unsuitable for ethical or technical reasons, or if the requested treatment conflicts with conservation best practices.
We may update these terms periodically to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The latest version will always be available on this page. For ongoing projects, the terms in effect at the time of your signed proposal will apply.
